In India, rangoli are drawn on floors and courtyards with colored sand to welcome guests and gods.  The most elaborate ones are done for festivals such as Diwali, the festival of lights.  This simple symmetric rangoli of birds surrounding the central flower could be drawn any day just for the beauty of it.
